Chamber Music on Star Island

2025 Program

Chamber Music on Star 2025 will feature thoughtfully selected music programs performed in inspiring island venues. Over the weekend, you will enjoy three main concerts and have other opportunities to hear and play music, plus explore the island’s many activities. There is time for morning exercise, a birding walk, a game of tennis or a dip in the ocean, or simply relaxing during happy hour before dinner. We share the Island with groups like the Isles of Shoals Historic & Research Association (ISHRA) whose fascinating lectures are open to Chamber Music members. Quiet moments rocking on the porch and beautiful ocean sunsets complete this full and rewarding weekend.

The 2025 Program includes works by Brahms, Beethoven, Bach, Gershwin, Moszkowski, Fauré, and more, along with special arrangements for the Star Island musicians by Paul Rosenbloom. Highlights include:

  • Beethoven: String Quartet No. 1 in F major, Op. 18, No. 1 (1798–1800)
  • Prokofiev: String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 92 (1941)
  • J.S. Bach: Sonata No. 5 in E minor for flute and piano, BWV 1034 (c. 1724); Sonata No. 3 in G minor for viola da gamba and keyboard, BWV 1029 (c. 1737)
  • Brahms: Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 (1862–64)
  • Fauré: Sicilienne for cello and piano, Op. 78 (1893)
  • Gershwin: An American in Paris, transcribed by Paul Rosenbloom for clarinet, piano, and string quartet
